About me:

Hello, my name is Brittany Berry. I have a Bachelors's in Psychology, and I earned a Master of Science degree in clinical mental health at William Carey University. I view counseling as an essential tool in assisting the client with movement from crisis to stability. Developing the relationship and building trust is also a process and a necessary component of the stabilization process. Once stable, I will work with clients to develop coping skills and work through their issues. My personal theoretical approach to counseling is based majorly on the psychoanalytic and Cognitive Behavioral Theories. I believe that there are things that happen to us and around us as humans that we push to the very deep, dark, the recess of our minds and hide them there because they are too painful for us to deal with. If these traumas are not brought to the light and dealt with, I feel like they weigh us down in life without us even realizing that they are causing us issues. Once those issues are brought to light, then the client and I can use CBT techniques to learn to cope with those issues. Counseling is the process where mental health distresses and disorders are assessed, evaluated, and treated. Counseling services are generally unlike any services clients may receive from a physician in that they require the client's active participation and cooperation. Counseling can be both pleasant and unpleasant. The client may experience uncomfortable feelings (such as sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, frustration, loneliness, or helplessness) or recall unpleasant events in the client's life. Hopefully, clients will have a reduction in feelings of distress, better relationships, better problem-solving and coping skills, and resolutions of specific problems. It is difficult to predict what will happen, but I will do my best to make sure clients are comfortable and can handle the risks and experience at least some of the benefits. Counseling is a team effort. The client's active participation and commitment are encouraged and expected to achieve the best possible outcome.
